Oleic acid's longer cousin, found in small amounts.

Eicosenoic acid is a monounsaturated fat with 20 carbons, closely related to oleic acid, the main fat in olive oil. It makes up a small share of your blood's fatty acids, coming partly from food and partly from your body lengthening oleic acid.

It's a research marker with few clear answers.

Food sources of eicosenoic acid haven't been well studied, though cod liver oil is one known source.

Research on how it relates to health is limited, and there's no established target level. It's mainly useful as part of the wider pattern in your fatty acid profile.

Questions

What does a higher eicosenoic acid result mean?

There isn't enough research to say much from this one number. Supplements such as cod liver oil may contribute. A clinician will consider it with your other monounsaturated fats and your full profile.

Do I need to do anything about it?

Usually you don't, since it isn't used on its own to guide care. If your profile shows a broader pattern worth acting on, a clinician can talk it through with you.
