Height anchors your BMI and waist-to-height ratio.

Height is measured during your at-home visit and used to calculate your BMI and waist-to-height ratio. A measured height gives those numbers a consistent starting point.

Height can change slowly with age.

Most adults stay close to their full height for years, but some people gradually lose height later in life. Osteoporosis Canada's guideline includes height and height loss in a bone health exam, so a recorded baseline can be useful later.

Questions

Why measure height if I already know it?

A measured height keeps your BMI and waist-to-height ratio consistent from visit to visit. Over the years, it also gives you a record that can show gradual height loss, which is worth mentioning to a clinician.

Does my height matter for my results?

Height mostly serves as a reference point here. It puts your weight and waist size in proportion, so BMI and waist-to-height ratio can be compared fairly between people of different heights.
